It’s easy to find a ton of great information about dental implants online from both professionals and patients alike. But one key factor is hard to pin down—the cost. What you pay for dental implants can vary quite a bit based on how many you need, the dentist providing them, and where you live—and then adding insurance to the mix can make things even more confusing! Does dental insurance offer benefits for dental implants?  Yes and no—keep reading to find out what this means.

Dental Insurance & Dental Implants

Most dental insurance plans will help pay for a portion of the dental implant process. But, which steps will receive coverage, and at what percentage, vary from policy to policy.

Some insurances will help pay for the placement surgery as well as the restoration attached to the implant(s). Some will only help pay for the restoration and not the surgery. Thankfully, most will have benefits for things like exams, anesthetic, X-rays, and other ancillary procedures to lower your overall cost.

The best thing you can do before committing to getting dental implants is look closely at your policy, talk to your provider, or better yet, reach out to your dentist. Their team will easily be able to break down your benefits and give you an estimate of your out-of-pocket expense so you know what to expect.

Additional Ways to Pay for Implants

If you still don’t think you’ll be able to afford implants, whether you have insurance or not, you have other options to explore. Many practices offer low-to-no interest financing through services like CareCredit or Cherry, and others even have in-house membership plans that give you a flat discount on a wide variety of treatments after paying an annual fee (that’s typically less than a yearly insurance premium).

While dental implants are expensive, dental insurance can be a big help financially, but you don’t need it to access this treatment. Working with your dentist and their team can make sure you take great care of both your smile and wallet so you enjoy peace of mind while replacing your missing teeth.
