Next, a dental hygienist will remove any plaque and tartar\nthat has built up around your gum line and teeth. If it is found to have spread\nbeneath your gums, you may need to undergo periodontal therapy, which includes\nscaling and root planing. Also known as \u201cdeep cleaning,\u201d this process removes\nplaque from beneath the gum line before smoothing out the tooth\u2019s root to\nencourage it to reattach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After quick flossing and polish, your dentist will come in\nto perform a thorough examination of your mouth, throat, soft oral tissues,\nteeth, and jaw. They will check for signs of decay, gum disease, oral cancer,\nand potential bite issues. If necessary, they will offer a personalized\ntreatment plan designed to address any problems that were found during your\nexam. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Importance of Regular Checkups and Cleanings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When you go too long without a proper dental checkup and\ncleaning, you are putting yourself at risk for cavities, periodontal disease,\ntooth decay, and more. It takes very little time for problems to develop within\nthe mouth and because it is closely interconnected to the rest of your body,\nyou may soon see issues with your heart, brain, and even your lungs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
